There are few things more dangerous than a long-kept secret. Just as there are few things more powerful than a well-told story.

And so, first and foremost, Ned identifies as an unapologetic oversharer.

His songs are merely a vessel through which he shares his most revealing experiences and thoughts with a captive audience. He weaves poetic lyricism through an indie-folk tapestry of classical guitar and piano, exploring themes that range from the macro to the micro: polyamory and unpacking jealousy; late life care and his mother’s need to be remembered; his travel to Istanbul during the 2016 military coup; the tragic tale of his favourite French century mathematician’s death in a duel…

He first picked up a guitar aged 14, but it wasn’t until his university days, studying law at Cambridge, that his songwriting began to bear fruit; there he met his best friend and formed an indie-folk duo, August and After. After graduation the pair moved to London and secured millions of listeners across the world with features on Official Spotify playlists, BBC Radio, Songwriting Magazine and an interview in The Independent.
In 2023 he moved to Vienna and began performing solo as Ned Stranger, with shows at Volkstheater True Story Nights, TedX Vienna and Sofar Sounds. On stage he is as much a storyteller as a songwriter, his concerts memorable for the engaging and humorous stories that precede the songs.

Ned Stranger is an English indie-folk songwriter and storyteller. His songs, an intimate blend of classical guitar, piano and poetic lyricism, draw from his polyamorous lifestyle and his love of books, and since his move to Vienna in 2023 he has worked with TedX Vienna, Sofar Sounds and True Story Nights at Volkstheater.
